Oh I’m so upset right now. Apple announced yesterday that Leopard, the next version of the Mac OS X Operating System is going to be delayed until October 2007. They have blamed development of the iPhone on the delay and stated that they would rather delay the release than put out a substandard product. Now I can understand this point but I’m kinda pissed because, right now the iPhone is not really on my radar. I mean I think it’s a cool idea, and definitely an amazing design but… I’m not in the market for a new phone and I’m not really happy about the provider, price and capacities. Leopard however, I’m really excited about, almost ironically, I had just drafted a post detailing how much I wanted Leopard to come out. I guess I’m most upset because I was really looking forward to a new “toy” if you will in the next 3 months or so, I guess now, I’ll just have to wait until October.

Today March 24th is OS X’s 6th birthday! It was March 24, 2001 when OS X 10.0 was released. OS X 10.0 was code named Cheetah and was the first official release of the OS. There was a public beta prior to it but this was the first official release. It was sold for 129.95 USD. Although the OS was somewhat buggy and was not as polished as it is today, it was an important milestone for Apple and the Macintosh community. OS X was many years in the making, it was a complete overhaul of the Mac OS, a process which had started in 1996. Though the OS was buggy, it was praised as a major step forward and a good start to a brand new Mac OS, there were however, legions of Mac OS 9 users who were not so happy about the change in the OS. OS X 10.1 (Puma) was released just 6 short months later and was given as a free upgrade to anyone who paid for 10.0. Yesterday in the Mac Rumor world… there was a rumor (a pretty silly one if you ask me) that OS 10.5 “Leopard” , which was announced to be released in “Spring 2007″ would be delayed until October of 2007. The rumor claimed that Apple needed the extra time to make Boot Camp Vista compliant. This seemed like a ridiculous story to me because:
The rumor was debunked by Apple today and Digitimes, the source of the story has apologized for starting the rumor. That being said…when is Leopard coming? I’m not saying it’s late (it’s really only the first week of Spring), I’m just saying I want it already! Well it’s over. I’m impressed but a bit disappointed. Announced, Apple TV (formerly iTV) and the iPhone. The Apple TV is a way to stream video content from your Mac to your TV. 720p, 802.11b,g,n, HDMI, RCA, Component Video. Neat idea. Not something I need :(. The iPhone is wicked cool. A widescreen iPod, a Phone, and an Internet Communicator. It’s wicked cool. Runs OS X. Runs DESKTOP apps. Has widgets, Safari, Mail, Google Maps etc. It’s GSM with EDGE and WiFi. It’s 11.6 mm thick. It has a 3.5″ wide screen. It’s all touch enabled. It has sensors to tell if it’s in landscape or portrait view, or if it’s near ur face so it can shut off the screen to conserve battery. Speaking of which it’s battery life is 16hrs of music, or 5hrs of general use. Photos are handled in an iPhoto like app, iTunes runs your music. Coverflow is implemented for browsing thru photos, music and even open web pages. It has only one button and everything else is done via touch screen. Even phone dialing is done via your contact list, voice mail is visual, you see all you messages in a list. Oh yeah, did i mention it has a 2.0MP camera?. It’s hardcore cool. There is MUCH technology that will filter down into current iPods and Macbooks. Technology-wise it’s a marvel. I want one if not for TFST, then because it’s one convergence device that would cut down what I carry significantly. Now the bad news. It’s Cingular only. Yup, exclusive multi-year contract. I have T-Mobile, I love T-Mobile. I had Cingular. I didn’t like it. More bad news… It’s not out until June 2007. Grrrr. And the really bad news. It’s flash-memory based. It’s pricey. 499 for a 4GB and 599 for a 8GB, and Cingular requires a 2 year contract. Also no word on what the data plan is going to cost. I really like the iPhone. It’s cool, it’s amazing but… switching providers? I’m not so sure about a 2 yr contract with as fast as Apple changes products. And… 8GB? My 60GB iPod is full. How do I cut back to 0.13% of my current data? I really wish there would have been a widescreen only iPod. I know it’s coming, but how could it come out before the iPhone is out (June)? My last gripe was that I wanted more out of this keynote. When is Leopard coming? What about iLife? iWork? Of course I’ll be watching the keynote, drooling over the iPhone, but… will I get one? That remains to be seen. Well, it’s no secret to my readers that I’m a bona fide, Apple junkie. I’ve had 14 Macs in the 5 years I’ve been a Mac user. I’ve also had one of every model iPod (except the new Shuffle), so I’m definitely a person who lives for the MacWorld Expo. This year may be quite a year. Apple’s teaser last week could be a foreshadowing of great things to come However, as an Apple shareholder, I’m a little worried. Rumors are coming from here, there and everywhere. Not only are they being reported on by all the great Apple rumor sites out there, they’re also getting picked up by the mainstream media. I saw someone on Fox News talking about the “iPhone”. This worries me because with all these people talking about a RUMOR, if Apple doesn’t produce this rumored product, a product it’s done nothing to confirm or market, the world thinks they’ve made a mistake, or missed a target. I for one hope, like I think most Mac users and Apple fans do, that the announcements will be amazing and that they will rock our worlds. I just hope that people remember that if a rumored product doesn’t surface, it was just a rumor. It’s like Christmas all over again! So here it is, January 1, the start of a new year. I was finally back in front of my MacBook and surfing my sites and I headed over to www.apple.com to check out how much the Klipsch iGroove HG costs and when i hit the home page… this is what I see… ![]() I popped over to MacRumors to find out what, if anything was up and even they seemed shocked. I really hope this means that MacWorld SF 2007 will be one to remember. I know, feast or famine right? I don’t blog for a week then I blog 7 times in two days, well so far… it’s gonna happen I forgot to mention all the Apple stuffs that happened this week… like… the fact that Apple now has 6.1% of the US Market share making it the fourth in the US. Now that might not be the best but remember they’re worth MORE than Dell now and they keeping moving up. They sold 1.6M Macs in the quarter and 8.7M iPods, each represents more than a 30% increase over the same quarter last year. They posted a profit of 546Million USD on Sales of 4.84Billion USD. This means for the year, a year where they completely switched from the Power PC architecture to the Intel Architecture, they sold 5.3 Million Macs and 39 Million iPods. 2007 looks strong for Apple. Now some articles I read that I’d like to share… Okay… that’s enough of that! ![]() Okay so this is the official invite to Apple’s September 12th Media Event. Gee…think it might be the much rumored iTunes Movie Store? Maybe along with a new iPod? Rumors also say Core 2 Duo iMacs, including a new 23″ iMac… who knows. Only time will tell. Of course I’m teaching that day, so I’ll have to depend on Pinoyboy for email updates! Hint Hint! Apple updated the Boot Camp Beta to version 1.1 today. Some of the high points…
read more here. I know the post is late but I’d like to chime in about the WWDC Keynote. New Mac Pros are amazing, I really did not expect them to put in the Woodcrest processor. Every Mac Pro is going to be a Quad Processor system and about twice as fast as the current G5 PowerMac Quad. Impressive. I was also amazed at how much space in the previous PowerMac was wasted to keep that G5 cool. There is so much more room inside and Apple’s put in a new way to install drives without any tools at all. More impressive to me is the new features announced for Leopard. Of course iChat especially. Also the Time Machine is amazing, I’m not sure it’s something I will need but I can completely see my mother and sister using this. Check out the features for your self, http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard and let me know what you think. This was just too funny, too cute, too true for me NOT to post it. Enjoy it. |
