Close Encounters of the Indy Kind

This weekend we went and checked out a movie that I was very much anticipating… Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I have to say when I first heard they were making another Indiana Jones, I was not very excited. I mean the last movie was called “The Last Crusade” and I thought they really didn’t need to make another. However, as I waited, I got more excited and eventually was very much looking forward to seeing it. Perhaps I shouldn’t have been.

Now that’s not to say that the movie was bad, it wasn’t. While I didn’t care for the alien beings plot line, I did like the plot’s twists, the family drama and the action. Harrison Ford was still good as Indy and they did a good job of making you believe he was doing the stunts. The action was on point as ever, especially the race scene. It’s just that I didn’t feel this movie was needed. I’ve always felt that the third movie, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was the best movie of the bunch and was a fitting swan song and I think that this latest movie was not nearly as good. I also did not like the insinuation that the series could continue with Shia LaBeouf as Indy. I don’t know… I say go see it, but don’t get your hopes up. 3 out of 5 stars.

California Dreaming

Ferrari California

Just announced today, a new retractable hard-top Ferrari. ‘Tis a thing of beauty I tells ya. It has a 460HP 4.3L V8, it’s mid engine is mounted toward the front, it has a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox and should do 0-60mph in under 4.0 seconds… SWEET!

Go Speed Go

We just got back from seeing Speed Racer tonight and I must say… it was FANTASTIC. It was another fantastic showing by the Wachowski Brothers. The story line was air tight, there was not a dull moment and the special effects were AMAZING. They really captured the story well and the feeling of animation came through so strongly in the look and feel of the movie. I can not say enough about this movie. I loved it. We’re two for two for summer movies this year, first Iron Man now Speed Racer. I give it a 5 out of 5 stars rating. Go see it…. now… come on… what are you waiting for??? Go Speed Go!

Stripped

Wow what a night… this evening I had tickets to see Eddie Izzard’s new show Stripped. It’s been about four and a half years since the last time he came to Philadelphia (for SEXIE). My friend Barb and I went down to catch the show at the Academy Of Music. We had dinner first at a lovely place called Varalli’s. The food was excellent. I had Carbonara Rigatoni with Sausage polpette. It was fabulous.

The show was good. He did not dress in drag but looked great none the less. The show was very tightly put together and excellent as always. The overall gist of the show was questioning the existence of God. It was very smart and intelligent as his material usually is. It was a great evening that’s for sure. And now… I’m exhausted. Time for bed.

A good start

This weekend I did something I’ve not done in a very long time… I went to the movies. I’ve not been to the movies in a long time. I think the last thing I saw in the theater was the Transformers. There just has not been much that has made me want to spend the price for me and the hubby to go to the movies, which in my area is 20 USD.

However this month there are quite a few movies I’m ready to plunk my money down for. In fact there is almost one every weekend and this weekend started it all off with the premiere of “Iron Man“.

If this movie is any indication of what the summer movie season holds… I’m very very excited. Iron Man was a killer movie. The story was great, not over done, not too much left out, Robert Downey Jr was perfect as Tony Stark and I even enjoyed Gwyneth Paltrow. The special effects were believable and well done and the whole thing moved smoothly. It was brilliant. I highly recommend it.

I know I’ve not rated a movie in a while but seeing as this might be the start of a good… 5 out of 5
stars. Go see it.
