How much more could it have sucked?

I’m guessing not much more than it did. I tried to have a positive day. I even took steps to get away from the suckiness and put it back on track but… at every turn, frustration, confusion and suckiness.

Of course I will not bitch about work on my blog. Too open a forum. Suffice it to say I spent the day chasing a problem, trying to resolve it, uncovering another problem that if it was fixed, could have helped with the first problem. Another problem brought to my attention , which I thought was being caused by an existing problem turned out to be totally unrelated, and fixable. Good right? Well not when you figure out that I didn’t come to that realization until 9:45pm. Thank goodness for Pinoyboy asking “is it writing to a file?”. If he hadn’t who knows how long it would have taken me to realize the log file was/is corrupted.

I was on a high at that point, but again, a happy eve was not to be. I’m not even going into what happened, but confusion and frustration found me again.

F*ck it. I’m going to bed.

Happy Birthday OS X… make with the 10.5

Today March 24th is OS X’s 6th birthday! It was March 24, 2001 when OS X 10.0 was released.

OS X 10.0 was code named Cheetah and was the first official release of the OS. There was a public beta prior to it but this was the first official release. It was sold for 129.95 USD. Although the OS was somewhat buggy and was not as polished as it is today, it was an important milestone for Apple and the Macintosh community. OS X was many years in the making, it was a complete overhaul of the Mac OS, a process which had started in 1996.

Though the OS was buggy, it was praised as a major step forward and a good start to a brand new Mac OS, there were however, legions of Mac OS 9 users who were not so happy about the change in the OS.

OS X 10.1 (Puma) was released just 6 short months later and was given as a free upgrade to anyone who paid for 10.0.

Yesterday in the Mac Rumor world… there was a rumor (a pretty silly one if you ask me) that OS 10.5 “Leopard” , which was announced to be released in “Spring 2007″ would be delayed until October of 2007. The rumor claimed that Apple needed the extra time to make Boot Camp Vista compliant. This seemed like a ridiculous story to me because:

  • Boot Camp’s Beta is already Vista compliant
  • In order for an end user to legally use Boot Camp with Vista, they’d have to buy a license for Vista Ultimate
  • Boot Camp could be updated separately or in a 10.5.x upgrade

The rumor was debunked by Apple today and Digitimes, the source of the story has apologized for starting the rumor.

That being said…when is Leopard coming? I’m not saying it’s late (it’s really only the first week of Spring), I’m just saying I want it already!

I had to…

…post about this. I mean two things I’d love, the Beatles and Lego. It would seem that someone mocked up some famous Beatles album covers in Lego. Fantastic.

A Hard Day’s Night…

Living in a hole

I swear I’ve been under a rock. There are a few people who found me, who I reached out to but for the most part, I’ve been MIA. I just needed a bit of time to clear the old head. No blog, no p’cast, no nothing.

Lots of stuff has happened, and I have things to blog about but I find anymore, that if I don’t blog about something right away… I never get around to it… I think I’m in the blogging blahs…

I have to snap out of this… I have an idea. Stay tuned!

I want a do over

I want a do over. I want to start this weekend over. It started off bad, got a little better, got a little worse and then turned to crap.

Thursday, I awoke with major back spasms, in the middle of my back, not in my lower back where I’ve had them before, add to that the fact that I was out of the muscle relaxer I take and the only way to get a refill was to go visit the doctor. I took the afternoon off on Friday, got to the doc’s got my refill and we headed to my folks to see my nephew and visit with my family.

I got excited when my sister called and told me she had an opening in her schedule and if I wanted, she’d cut my hair. I rushed right over and she gave me a very nice cut. I was a happy kid. Dinner went well too, and as always some Uno. That didn’t go as well as I had hoped but AJ came over and played with us. We headed home to get some shut eye really late.

Saturday we got up with the plans to go have breakfast but before we made it, a call came in from my Dad saying that my Mom had something stuck in her throat and had to be rushed to the hospital to get it out. She’d need surgery and the doctors were concerned that if anything happened during the surgery, they might not be able to revive her. Well of course we headed right back to my parents and meet up with my family. It was very tense waiting for her to come out of surgery but she made it through okay and she will be fine.

We spent a sleepless night at my folks with the my sister and the baby while my Dad stayed with my Mom in the hospital. We got to see her today and she was very uncomfortable but resting well and sleeping. We got home at about 16:00 and started all the things we didn’t get done earlier.

Where the heck did my weekend go? Thank goodness my Mom is okay.

Who knew?

Okay, I don’t often like to admit to not knowing something, but this was too funny to pass up. I was having a handful of baby carrots (the ones that come in a big for snacking) while chatting on the phone with my good friend Pinoyboy when this convo started:

PB: Do you know where baby carrots come from?
Me: Yeah the ground.
PB: No not the fancy haute cuisine ones, the ones you’re eating out of the bag.
Me: Ummm…the ground?
PB: Well technically yes but they are just shaved down carrots. They take big carrots and cut them down and shape them like carrots, only smaller.
Me: Shut up…really? No way. (goes to look on Wikipedia)
Me: Oh.

So yeap. There it is. I’m dumb as a brick. Who knew. I mean they look like baby carrots. They even have the lines, I just figured they were peeled.

What other food is not as I thought? I decided to do some research… here’s my results..

1. Baby Corn IS baby corn. Just harvested before it’s mature.
2. Drumettes do NOT come from little chickens…. the drumette and the “wing” actually are part of the wing.
3. While bananas are fruits, Banana Trees are actually HERBS!
4. My birthday is sandwiched between National Cheesecake Day and National Milk Chocolate day.

Who knew?

The Foxes got a new iFruit!

As I’ve mentioned before I’m a huge fan of FoxTrot. As I was reading the weekly (Sunday only) strip, I noticed that the Foxes got a new iMac…or iFruit as they call it…

Read, not dead.

Well it took quite sometime but I finally finished Read Or Die the TV. It’s taken me a really long time to get through it but I did it! I was re-inspired to watch the show when two of my friends asked me about it. It is a fantastic piece of Anime (IMHO). The series details the story of The Paper Sisters (Maggie, Michelle and Anita), Nenene Sumiregawa and Yomkio Readman and the their experience with the British Library. The Paper Sisters and Yomiko can manipulate paper. They can use it as a weapon, a means to travel and even clothes!

It took me almost 3 years to get through the series! I throughly enjoy Anime but I have such a hard time watching it and doing other things at the same time (which I do mostly when I watch TV). I made record time watching almost 15 episodes in 3 days!

Look at me go!
