Happy Birthday to… Me!

Yup, Saturday was my birthday. 33rd to be exact. It was a fantastic one. I spent the day in New York City where I spent the day with R and my boyfriend and we met up with my friend Zell for dinner. We started the day at the 5th Avenue Apple Store, which was packed. We next stopped at the Disney NYC store, Trump Tower and then the Kinokuniya Bookstore, and eventually the Nintendo World Store. We headed from there over to Times Square and did up the Toys R Us and Virgin Megastore before meeting up with Zell for dinner at Virgil’s BBQ.

We all chowed down and then headed out to the bar where our friend Mike P works at. It was too long a walk to take on foot but we were foolish and didn’t realize that. We almost lost R to dehydration, good thing he just cracked himself up a whole lot! When we got to the bar we found Mike (who I must say is looking very good these days!), and wandered around. It was after midnight and everyone was pretty tired and realizing we had a good 3 hour drive home… we decided to roll out. The trip home was fun and lots of laughs were had.

Thanks to all of you for making my day so special. Some pics from the day are below. In clockwise order, my gift from my boyfriend, my gift from Vu, my dinner party, and my gift from R!

40 Miles on the Panama Canal…

Oh my pod! I can’t get this song out of my head. It’s terrible. I’m teaching and I keep hearing Wakko singing… “High lock, up goes the ship…Low lock, the ship takes a dip“. Surely this is the first sign of insanity. What do you think Chiyo?

Panama Canal - Animaniacs
Got a trap-steamer, my ship’s called Hal
Forty miles on the Panama Canal
Got a cargo of sodas, they are lo-cal
Forty miles on the Panama Canal

Sailing ‘cross the Carribean Sea
Do the Pacific in a jiffy
Puru, Panama but not on land
I’d look silly with my ship in the sand

Yo Hal, try that canal
Yo Hal, the canal is your pal

You can sail a cargo ship
From sea to shining sea
Through the Panama Canal
for a nominal fee

You enter a lock, it’s a ship coral
Forty miles on the Panama Canal
You pay your money, then get a decal
Forty miles on the Panama Canal

You cross the locks, they number three
Full of water for you and me
100 feet wide, 41 feet deep
Water enough to drench a sheep

High lock, up goes the ship
Low lock, the ship takes a dip
First they raise the water level
Then lower it again
‘Cross the Panama Canal
It’s real easy

We pass the locks, with good moral
Forty miles on the Panama Canal
The crew yells out, ‘Thank you, Hal’
Forty Miles on the Panama Canal

You’re welcome, men
Wasn’t that fun
Forty miles, our voyage is done
For I’m full on now past Balboa
Adios Panama, so long - aloha

Why Big Brother Rocks

OMFG. Last night’s Big Brother 7 was the hands down best show there ever was. Will is the devil and these dumb bitches just smile at him. They are all so stupid. Especially James. And boy did Jase show how little he changed from his last go around. I will say on top of all this drama… I loved Marcellas’ rant about the “Iraqi Peach” and I loved even more what he had to do to his beloved Kaysar.

If my being vague is annoying… it’s all for the benefit of R. I don’t wanna spoil it for you kiddo!

I thought this season of BB would suck since it was all people we’d already seen on the show but you know… that just makes it better. Seeing people who think they know it all getting totally railroaded by one person…sigh. That’s damn good TV.

Face the Runway!

As I’ve mentioned before, I personally love the show Project Runway on Bravo. The show is about 16 designers and their journey to win the show. Three designers will have a showing at New York’s Fashion Week in September. I love the drama of it all and the interaction of the designers with each other. It’s a great show. I highly recommend it.

If you like the show and watch it, you will most likely also like the Project Runway Podcast. The podcast is hosted by Tim Gunn, Chair of Fashion Design for Parsons The New School For Design, who is the “ringleader” of the designers on the show. I feel that Tim makes the show and his podcast is just sublime. I doubt Tim will ever read this but if he was to, I’m sure he’d take my “review” in the spirit which it was intended. If the podcast was nothing but a recap of what happened on the show (like so many TV show podcasts are), it would be so boring and dull but it is not. Tim is so over the top. His insight to what we didn’t see and what he was thinking of the designs is so great. He dishes everyone who deserves it and rips into contestants which a I love. His vocabulary like his commentary is over the top and hilarious. We’re already only two weeks into the show and he’s almost caused me to have a few accidents in my car! If you do read this Tim, you will never understand how you tickled me PINK with your “Hot Mess” comment about Malan’s dress!

Again if you like the show, seriously check out the podcast. Tim, keep up the fantastic work, I’m your biggest fan!

“Carry on…”

Project Runway 3 - Malan is OUT!

Well this week on Project Runway Heidi “Auf’d” Malan. The quirky designer who I felt took himself just a bit too seriously. Being serious… his dress was as Tim Gunn himself said in the Project Runway podcast, was a “Hot Mess”. The dress was to be designed for Miss USA to wear in the Miss Universe pageant and that dress looked like a tree trunk. It was a mess. Especially the hem. Do they watch the previous seasons? I’d wager that Malan did not, just based off his self-importance. However your finish is almost as important as your design and both of his sucked.

Congrats Kayne… your dress was beautiful, Auf Wiedersehen Malan. Vincent… once again you skate thru… your days are numbered.

Buying a Mac?

If you’re thinking of buying a Mac or just wanna hear a gomo and a nice guy talk about it… listen to my podcast, the OHMYPOD! Podcast. It’s a two parter that equal up to about 90 minutes of gomo-chat but it’s a good over view of Windows > Mac issues.

Not well…

Today was not a good day. I woke up just before my alarm went off (boy do I hate that), and while in the shower I found a knot in my neck. I worked it over under the hot spray of the shower and it got smaller but it didn’t go away. My neck was stiff but I didn’t think much of it as the boyfriend and I carpooled to work.

Once at work, I had my breakfast, a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios and some Orange Juice. Nothing earth shattering, nor out of the ordinary. Right before lunch my stomach started to feel kinda icky. Yes I did say icky, as it’s the best way to describe how I was feeling. I decided to take a light lunch and I had some cucumbers and a tiny bit of dressing. About 20 minutes after I ate, a wave of nausea and a very upset stomach, not good. Within 30 minutes of that feeling, I had been to the bathroom 4 times. And not to throw up if you get my drift. It was about 1230 and I was not feeling well at all. I alerted the boyfriend to this, hoping he’d say “let’s head home” but completely not expecting him to be able to get away. I knew he had lots to do at the office. As I had feared, he was not able to get away but told me he’d go as soon as he could but that would probably not be until after 1600. Oh boy.

Well, in the next 3.5 hours, I hit the bathroom 8 more times. I felt miserable. On top of that that knot in my neck was killing me and my lower back was in spasms, it was not a pretty site, I am not a well man. We came home and I tried to have some soup because believe it or not I was crazy hungry, well that didn’t stay in long either and prompted about 3 more trips to the bathroom.

I parked my ass on the couch and took some Advil and Immodium. I’m feeling better-ish, still ravenous but afraid to eat. My neck and back are still out of whack and I think this evening will end up with me in bed early doped on some Flexiril, hoping for some relief. I sure hope I feel better tomorrow.

Thanks to my sweetie for taking care of me and thanks to Pinoyboy for telling me to shut up and take my ass to bed (which was only echoing what the boyfriend had been chanting in my ear for the past 45 minutes…).

Oh did I mention this post was done on Ubuntu Linux running in Parallels on my Mac? Sigh even sick gomos make progress.

UPDATE: It’s 1045. I woke my self up… I’m miserable, hot and restless… figured I’d check the Ubuntu updates and while there figured… why don’t add a screen cap of macboyx.com in Ubuntu?

When it rains…

…bad things can happen. Last nite at the height of the heat and humidity around here (98 degrees) a hellacious storm whipped up. At 6:30pm it was darker than it is at 9:30pm! The wind was gusting (the news said 71MPH!) and there was HAIL. Lots of a hail. It was almost scary. Wild weather. Oh yeah and the Dairy Queen closed early. Much to my chagrin.

No summer lull

I’m in heaven. As you all know I’m quite the TV fanatic, and as you also all know summers used to be torture for people like me. Nothing new, all repeats, yada yada… but not any more. Cable television and more importantly, reality programming has changed all that. And I’m a happy little bear. No only is there stuff to watch, three of my favorite reality shows are all on at the same time… Project Runway, Big Brother and Hell’s Kitchen.

I love to hear Tim Gunn say “Carry On…” and make that “I don’t like it” face, hearing Gordon Ramsey scream obscenities at his underlings and throw plates of food on the floor tickles me pink, and the schemeing and backstabbing on Big Brother simply can’t be beat… Go Janelle! So in a time where I’m usually starving for new, fresh stuff to TiVo… I’m stuffing my brain with great TV. And I could not be happier!
