Wow

Paul Thurrott, who is a MAJOR Windows supporter, and who we’ve been suprised by before, has some amazing things to say about the new Apple MacBook. Basically, he likes it. A lot.

I’m shocked. The article is great and there was no tongue in cheek dig at the end.

Wow.

I just want to cancel…

Why in this day and age is it SO hard to cancel service. What service? It doesn’t matter any service. You can sign up for, pay for and edit your account on line but to cancel… nothing. No link, no information. When you can find a number to call, you call and again, no mention of the menu option for cancel my service. And while I’m at it, why did I have to enter my acct information for your system to pull up my account only to have to give it to the person on the phone again?

Do these companies really think by not making it EASY to cancel my service that I’m going to say “Oh what the hell. I’ll just keep paying you for something I don’t want…” If anything, it’s cementing my decision to bin them.

Hopeless Romantic

Yes that’s me. I usually fail quite miserably at my attempts at romance (I’m sure the boyfriend would back me up), but I am a hopeless romantic and today on MacWorld, there was an article with the man who proposed to his girlfriend using the time lapse cameras Apple had set up to record the first 24 hours of the Apple Store Fifth Avenue. It’s a nice article and show just how fanatical some folks are about their Macs. My proposal to my love had nothing to do with a Mac if you’re wondering… I did it on the boardwalk…

Article here. Wanna see him propose? Cick here.

Married, Repaired, Rested

Hey KIDDIES…how are y’all doing? How was your weekend? Mine? BUSY AS F*CK.

A four day weekend (much needed of course) started with my sister’s wedding. She looked beautiful and I don’t think I looked too bad in my tux, fat yes, bad no… :) It went off without too much drama or anything going too awry. I will say that it was hot. BALLS HOT. I did not mind wearing a tux but all those layers in that heat… LOL. It was especially warm when we did the pics. They should come out great. I did drop the F-Bomb in the church LOL. Not like I wasn’t already going to hell!

We saw X3 this weekend. I have to say over all I liked it a lot. It was a good action movie with some nice special effects and a great story surrounding Phoenix. There were some parts that were off the wall and not at all along the story line of the comics, but if you could just look at it as a movie… you’ll enjoy it. We saw it with my friend R and his boyfriend H. We also had some teppanyaki for dinner. It was so good. I love to go and eat at a place like that. Yum!

The rest of the weekend was spent hanging out with family and getting caught up with TV and DVDs. We watched the season finale of LOST, it was sooo good! And we watched lots and lots of a new show, well new to us… Footballer’s Wives. Oh my pod! is that show good! These are some dirty ass bitches… and some hot blokes. I highly recommend it.

Now of course there was sooo much more to this weekend but… that’s what the podcast is for yeah?

So yeah…a MacBook

Well as I said in my blog post from Saturday this past weekend I traded my MacBook Pro for a MacBook (well actually TWO MacBooks). Now before you give me any sh*t about always needing the newest and greatest Mac (one friend said “No moss grows on your Macs!”)… I did not have any plans to get a MacBook… but these deals always seem to find me.

It was my intention to get my beloved a MacBook. He’s been patiently waiting for the MacBook. He’s been using our 12″ PowerBook G4 (which is about 2.5 yrs old) and although he likes the PowerBook, he’s been quite vocal on the fact he doesn’t feel comfortable with the PowerBook, he longs for the durability of the iBook’s case. We’ve been patiently waiting for the replacement for the iBook. Last Tuesday, we got our wishes… the MacBook. I was talking to a friend of mine about my plans to go and buy him one to surprise him, and he asked if I was going to get one and I said nah I have my MacBook Pro. He shocked me by asking if I’d be interested in selling it to him. I gave it some thought and after spending some time with my friend’s MacBook, I decided to do it. So I traded my MacBook Pro for not one but two MacBooks. Not too shabby huh?

So what do I think of my MacBook? Long story short, I love it. I do miss some of the features of my MacBook Pro, like my illuminated keyboard and the slightly bigger screen but all in all the MacBook really fits my needs. This might not be the case for everyone but for me… I couldn’t be happier. The wide screen makes all the difference, the resolution, although not a dense as the MacBook Pro’s is the same as my previous PowerBook 1280×800 (PB was 1280×854). Certainly acceptable. The glossy screen is fantastic. Colors are more rich, watching a DVD looks great, and I can finally see my screen in the sunlight. The keyboard is a joy. It’s not hard to type on and I actually make LESS mistakes with it. The track pad is still same wider pad as the MacBook Pro but features a new trick (as does the MacBook Pro 17″) where if you place two fingers on the track pad and press the track pad’s button it gives you a CTRL CLICK. Nice!

The speakers still suck, but on every Mac portable I’ve ever had (except my 12″ PowerBook) they’ve been not so great, They are nicely placed on the back side of the case instead of on the top case. The black case is nice. It’s a rubbery feeling MATTE finish. It looks nice very much like an older PowerBook G3.

Now the real important stuff… complaints! Is it hot? does it make any noises? Anything bad?

Well yes it gets WARM, but not HOT like the MacBook Pro. It’s not that it’s better, it’s just different design. First of all, the MacBook Pro has it’s processors across the back of the case. So the bottom gets very warm and it’s aluminum, which does conduct heat. The MacBook has it’s processors in the far left hand corner and the rubber case does a good job of insulating it.

My MacBook does make some noise… it makes a sort of whirring noise like a fan is kicking on but it does not ever start, some have referred to this as “mooing”. I’m hoping for a firmware fix for it. Also…the case does however get a lot of fingerprints on it but they’re easy enough to wipe off.

If you are going to get a MacBook make sure you get MORE RAM. The 512 is not enough with the integrated graphics card. The graphics are great, I haven’t had any issues with it but of the 512MB of RAM, 122MB is always held in reserve for the graphics. I installed 1GB of RAM and it’s amazingly faster. Everything runs smoother.

So all in all, I’m pretty freaking happy :)

Nike+iPod

Hmm is this cool or weird? I think a bit of both. Today Nike announced with Apple a gadget that communicates between your Nike + shoe and your iPod Nano. No sh*t.

Check it out here…

Because he cares

I just want to say to my friend Zell, who raised lots of money for and walked in the 2006 AIDS Walk NYC.

If you donated to him, thanks. To Zell. Thanks. You rock.

Never Let Me Down

And they didn’t. This weekend R and I went to see this weekend at the Borgata in Atlantic City (AC).

We had some great chat on the way down and listened to some Pet Shop Boys on the iPod and just enjoyed each other’s company. R is a great friend who really sees things the same as me and it was nice to have him around. We arrived at the hotel first, Harrah’s and check ed into the room. It was nice, good sized too and we promptly headed for the Borgata for the concert.

The room was setup like an auditorium, 4 sections with seats and a “general admission” area. We had tickets for the General Admission area and we strolled in and found a spot. Of course we were too freaking early and so we had a stroll about the place. After killing about 20 minutes we headed back and the size of the group in the General Admission area had doubled! We grabbed our spots and stayed put.

She Wants Revenge was the opening act and they weren’t all that bad but every song sounded exactly the same, and they ALL sounded like “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” by Bauhaus. It was crap. And the guitar seemed to be mixed MUCH higher than the vocals. All in all, two songs into their 7 songs, I was bored. I wanted Depeche! They finally ended about 2035 and left the stage. Next the roadies came and set up DM’s stage and they came on around 2115 and opened with “A Pain I’m Used To” and played for about 90 minutes. The set list was pretty good:

Air sirens kick off and they go into…

– A Pain That I’m Used To
– A Question Of Time
– Suffer Well
– Precious
– Walking In My Shoes
– Stripped - I STILL hate this song!

Dave goes off stage, Martin sings…

– Home
– Judas - acoustic…sweet

Dave comes back on stage…

– In Your Room
– Nothing’s Impossible
– John The Revelator - MUCH better live than on the disc
– I Feel You

Kicking it up a notch, the crowd really gets into it...

– Behind The Wheel
– World In My Eyes
– Personal Jesus
– Enjoy The Silence - silence? HA the crowd is deafening…

DM leaves the stage, even though you KNOW they’re coming back for the…ENCORE!

– Shake The Disease - Martin comes on and sings this acousticly.
– Photographic - BRIGHT LIGHTS!
– Never Let Me Down Again - The crowd went f*cking NUTS!

DM leaves for good.

After the concert, we hit up NOW (Noodles of the World) for dinner. It took over an hour to get a place to sit but we had some awesome food. I wanted the Pho, but I went with the General Tso’s Chicken, R had Beef Chow Fun. By this point it was after 1 am and we both decided to go and crash, however that would be delayed as we lost the car. No sh*t we did. We parked on the 5th floor but for some reason, I swore it was the 3rd. After doing 2 laps of the 3rd floor, we went up to the 4th. After two more laps, still no car. We finally found it on the 5th floor and were in stitches about it. We had decided against going to the boardwalk and walking because we were tired of standing, and there we did about the same amount looking for the car.

Once we got back to the hotel, we played Mario Kart DS and talked until we both basically passed out. How gomo? is that?

This weekend definitely did not let me down!
