When is a blog dead?

I read a lot of blogs. I write one, I know how hard it can be to write in it all the time. I’ve had PLENTY of posts I’ve started and never finished and plenty of days between posts so I know it’s not easy… but at what point do you consider a blog you read dead?

I mean, there have been plenty that I read where the author said “That’s it…I’m out!” but even more that just languish on the web. No updates for weeks or months. At what point do you just as Patsy would say “Finsih the beaujolais and walk away…”

What do you think?

Clone Sex?

I was speaking to a friend last nite who was telling me how busy he was and I said to him “Wow too bad you can’t make a clone of yourself to help you with your work.” His response stunned me just a little…

“If I had a clone of my self I’d soooo have sex with it. Wouldn’t you?”

Hmmmm. That brings up an interesting question, more for my gay readers than straight, but if you had an exact replica of yourself would you want to have sex with yourself?

My answer was “No, but I would definitely double team my boyfriend with him!”

What’s your answer?

Onward and upward

Well in spite of my previous post, I did have myself one hell of a good weekend in spite of myself. I owe both my betrothed and my wonderful friend R more than a few thanks for this. They really did me right. (Get your mind out of the gutter!)

Friday evening, R showed up and we had a FANTASTIC night of guilty gomo pleasures. DVDs (including anime) were watched, too much food was eaten, hours spent playing on Macintoshes and just talking until we both passed out were exactly what my funked up self needed. I must say that the more I know R, the more I realize how lucky a guy I am for having met him.

Saturday was an unexpected treat as R did not jet home as early as I had expected he’d have to. He stayed and hung out with us most of the day. It was nice to spend some time with both him and my sweetie and we had a lot of fun tech shopping and just being silly. A highlight of the day was R and I using my Nintendo DS (and my honey’s) to race head to head via Mario Kart DS on the way to Best Buy. We were laughing so hard that we gave ourselves headaches. Too funny. R seemed to enjoy it so much he bought his own Nintendo DS. BTW Evilbuddha and Vu, we need a 4 way WiFi race… when you all are ready!

The rest of the day was filled with laughter and fun with both of them the likes of which I haven’t had since I’d last hung out with my sweetie and Vu. I needed it. Really.

The evening was spent with my sisters. We had a great dinner where I had one too many drinks and then an evening spent laughing our asses off playing Mario Party 7. I really did not expect my one sister to enjoy it but she seemed to have more fun than any one else. I was super happy.

Sunday was a mixed bag of sadness and elation. The day started out great, got a little rocky and then turned into a wonderful afternoon. We headed to the King of Prussia Mall to pick up a new limited edition piece for my Walt Disney Classic Collection.

Greetings from Paradise
Stitch in Paradise

You’d think that would have been enough but no…. I had to have this as well…

Elvis was a model citizen
Lilo: Elvis Was a Model Citizen

I had to have it because it goes with my The Stitch piece I got from Shawn for Christmas. And you’d think that would be enough, I had to join the Walt Disney Classic Collection Society, which gives you a members only piece which I wanted badly…

Ariel: 2006 Walt Disney Collectors Society

Oy vey. I need to learn to say no. I’m happy. They are all great pieces and I’m excited to own them. The rest of the day was spent hanging out with my boyfriend and unwinding from my hectic, but good weekend!

Sick of being in a funk

Last week, I was in a really bad funk. Something in particular had me pissed and depressed at the same time. It affected my podcasting for sure, my blogging skimmed by (brave face?), but I was truly in a major league pissy mood.

The reason for this is not fodder for the masses, and should not and will not be displayed on this blog. Those involved know who they are and I need to figure a way out of it. This is not always easy. It’s not easy to see a light at the end of every tunnel and it’s even more difficult to deal with when you realize your own “triggers” and “shortcomings” are partially to blame. This is perhaps most troubling.

It is also difficult to deal with a situation when you feel that you’re making your points, arguing your perspective and those are either, not understood, not accepted, or just plain ignored. That only serves to prolong the pain and the unhappiness associated with a situation like this and I am at a loss on how to fix that.

It would be most easy to just say “I couldn’t care less” or even the more venerable “F*ck It”, but that’s hard to do when you do care about the outcome. It however is not an easy thing to deal with when you feel like you are the only one who cares. This may not be true, but actions speak as loudly as words in my mind and actions can hurt just as much if not more than words. Indifference is worse than hatred, if you hate something or someone, at least you still care.

However something happened this weekend to me. Well not to me but it affected me, directly. I realized that life is short. Stuff like this is bullsh*t and maybe I don’t need to say “I couldn’t care less”. Maybe I SHOULDN’T CARE AS MUCH.

I’m over it. I am sure the parties involved won’t even notice, which only proves my point more.

The Tim Tam Slam

What the the bollocks is a Tim Tam Slam? Well I’ll tell ya… cause I did one today. My boss just came back from a 3 week vacation (do I even get that many days a year?) to New Zealand. She came by to say hi and ask if I wanted a Tim Tam Slam. A group of willing participants were collected in the cafeteria and…slams were done.

First of all what is a Tim Tam?

Well it’s kinda like a biscuit. Kinda like a cookie. It’s good. It’s coated in chocolate so that might be why it’s so good. It was very “Kebler Elf”. But what was more fun was the Slam.

Secondly…what is the Tim Tam Slam?

As the wikipedia article explains, the Slam is basically a fun way to eat a Tim Tam. In the slam, you bite off opposite corners and basically make a straw out of the cookie. The Tim Tam is enclosed in chocolate so the straw concept actually works. You dunk it into your tea and begin to suck very hard thru one corner. What happens next is the best part. The heat of the beverage passing through the cookie/biscuit causes the Tim Tam to rapidly melt from the inside out and just about the time the tea or coffee make it to your lips the Tim Tam is a semi stable gooey chocolate mess that you “SLAM” into your mouth.

It was good. Several people at the table had some trouble getting the tea to pass thru their Tim Tam. They weren’t sucking hard enough. Of course I did not have this problem. LOL.

Try one. If you can get a Tim Tam in the US. They are hard to come by.

OMFG… Steve commented.

It’s an amazing day in MBX history. Not only did my good friend Steve actually read my freaking blog. He commented. 4 times no less. Is hell freezing over?

No… Vista slipped again so that’s good news for my kind… must be a fluke.

Thanky you for your support Steve-O.

Vista delayed…again…

Microsoft announced today that it would delay the shipping of it’s next version of it’s operating system, Windows Vista until after the holiday shopping season. They said they still promise to ship the OS to business customers in November of 2006.

“We could have just gone ahead, but I didn’t think it was the right thing to do,” said Jim Allchin, co-president of the company’s Platforms & Services Division. “We’re setting stringent quality bars on what we do.”

Ok so I ask the following two questions.

1. If it’s a quality issue then do business customers deserve less quality than home customers?

2. Does anyone really think that 8 weeks is going to improve the quality and stability of Vista?

I don’t mean to be spreading Microsoft FUD but… this can’t be good for Microsoft’s image. Delaying yet again an OS that has been stripped of MANY of it’s proposed features is not a good way to start off a new product.

UPDATE: I could not resist following up with this… I am not sure the guy is really a MS insider but I do believe most of the commenters are…here it is. Enjoy.

V for Freakin’ Awesome

“Remember, remember the fifth of November,
gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.”

This weekend, I headed out to take in the much anticipated (in my mind) V for Vendetta, a new movie by the Wachowski Brothers. It’s based off the comic series/graphic novel written by Alan Moore. I wanted to see this movie but I did not know much about it. I can sum up how I felt about the movie very simply. It’s the best movie I’ve seen in a long time.

It had no slow parts, I was completely immersed in the story and the beauty of the film. As the story unfolded, it only got better. The story was very relevant to the world we live in, although it was obvious the point was lost on the group of teens behind us.

Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith of the Matrix) nailed the complexity and depth that V needed. Natalie Portman aside from being BEAUTIFUL as a bald woman was great as the deeply troubled Evey.

Go see this movie. It rocked.

“Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. There is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof…”

Damned if you do… damned if you don’t?

Yesterday, I was at a customer site which had a certain religious affiliation. I was at the site in a professional capacity, and I was asked, quite inappropriately in my opinion if I was single. I don’t know if the woman asking me because she was curious, or interested. In my mind it was cause she was NOSY. I did not know what to say. I did not want to lie, I’m not single. I’m very happily unsingle. But I don’t think it was appropriate to out myself. I’m in no way ashamed of being gay, but sometimes in the work place, I am not sure if I should be out and loud or just sort of shurg off the conversation. That’s not to say that in some situations, at some customers, in some regions of the country, I have had no issue answering that question very clearly, but where I was, I didn’t feel right about it. The conversation only got more stressful and obtuse…

Her: So, are you single?
Me: Ummm… no.
Her: Girlfriend?
Me: No.
Insert my brain racing a mile a minute at her expression
Me: Fiancé.
She doesn’t need to know there’s one less “e” there!
Her: Great! Is she pretty?
What the fuck kinda of question?
Me: To me my fiancé is the most beautiful person in the world.
Her: That’s great. Set a date?
Me: Uhh no not yet.
Her: Do you live together?
This was accompanied by a very judgmental look.
Me:(confidently) No, I don’t live with HER.
Me: Let’s get back to class.

I didn’t lie, but I didn’t tell the truth. I think I was secretly pleased by the whole deception. It did strike me as funny that she just seemed determined to pass some sort of judgement on me. This of course will be a moot point in less than a month when I will have my ring on full time.

To be truthful, I think I probably shoulda looked her in her eye and said. No, I live with HIM. Now get out of my face.
