Lazy Days of Summer

Ah…vacation. Today is the first day of my vacation and I lived it up royally! I did not get my lazy ass out of bed until almost 2pm. I woke up, saw the cable was off and went right back to bed. When I did finally get up, I watched some Tennis, go Venus!

I am working on my blog today, got lots to do… Oh I love vacation!

War of the Worlds

This evening, Shawn and I saw War of the Worlds. The movie stars Tom Cruise, who I often flip before liking and not liking. He was good in the movie, but the movie itself was AMAZING. I loved it. It moved amazingly fast and totally immersed you and kept you completely involved, I even jumped in my seat in one part. The special effects were very good and I loved the Martians. They were really very cool.

I would definitely recommend going to see this movie at the theater, pay full price if you have to!

Podcasts

Well I had been dabbling with listening to Podcasts, but finding them has been hard. All that changed with iTunes 4.9. I found about a dozen Podcasts I wanted to listen to and I have been all morning listening to them while I am working.

I will add a section on the right listing the Podcasts that I listen to so you all can try them out. On this topic, I must say that I am of course (Shawn was right) tempted to try it myself but I don’t know what I’d have to talk about. Or if anyone would want to listen. If anyone has any ideas… let me know.

OK off to get some lunch!

Sick and Tired.

Ugh this summer cold is KICKING MY ASS! It felt like it was moving from my head to my chest last nite and when I woke up this morning I felt like someone was sitting on my chest. Reluctantly I called off of work and went back to bed. I have SOOOO much catching up to do but I needed to rest. I slept until like 11am, when I woke up and found out that the cable was out again. I just went back to sleep.

When I woke up again I got some lunch and surfed the net for a bit. Downloaded iTunes 4.9 and played with some Podcasting. Dinner came way to fast and now it’s bed time. I def wanna go back to work tmrw. I got so much to do and my four day weekend is coming soon! Hopefully this will be a productive one as Shawn, my dad and I plan on finishing the wall between the living room and office. I’ll try to document it with photos and blog about it.

Okay folks, I am hella tired. G’nite

Gunslinger Girl

Today was a good day, I really had no desire to go to work today but I did, and I got to play with my Stitch bubble blower, however I brought it home because I really don’t think he’ll last there. I am convinced someone would nick it.

The drive home was rough because I was really sleepy for some reason thank goodness for Jimmy Buffett. However, this was not as bad as the news I received when I got home… THE CABLE WAS OUT! GASP! No TV, no Internet, no Phone. Ugh. Shawn reported it had been out for a little while and they claimed it was temporary, and the reason for the outage was because they were upgrading our neighborhood so we could FINALLY get Digital Cable and HDTV.

Seriously, it was not so bad, we had dinner and played the Sims 2 a little, and Shawn got me these way cool bags that flatten out your clothes by sucking the air out (for when I travel). We had dinner and watched some Full Metal Alchemist on DVD and after dinner we went up to the loft and watched the entire first DVD of Gunslinger Girl. It was fantastic. Amazing. I cannot wait for the second DVD to come out now! The girls are great, the story is good and the animation is compelling.

After Gunslinger Girl, we realized the cable came back on and I got to order a few accessories for my new PowerBook, which after watching Gunslinger Girl, I promptly decided on a name for it. Henrietta. I also got to talk with evilBuddha (finally!) who I haven’t got to chat with much over the past week with my travel schedule. He was good enough to help me figure out some issues I was having with the trackpad on my new PowerBook. Damn that “Ignore accidental trackpad input”. It was making the trackpad respond erratically to my input. At his suggestion, I unchecked it and suddenly, it started working so well! Thanks evilBuddha!

Nite.

Batman Begins

OK, still trying to get caught up, I forgot to post about Batman Begins.

Batman Begins was amazingly good. I was really happy with it. I was a bit unsure at first with the whole League of Shadows thing, but it worked well. The movie moved very quickly and I hardly noticed it was an almost 2.5 hour movie. Everyone was very good in the movie including Katie Holmes, who some people have said was bad in the movie. Christian Bale was almost perfect as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Michael Caine did a great job as Alfred. He really pulled off a few good one liners. I however throughly enjoyed Gary Oldman as James Gordon. He really nailed what I felt Gordon should have been like and I liked the glimpse of him at home with what must have been Barbara as a toddler.

It’s been said to death but it was neat how they tried to explain all of his gadgets and why they came to exist. I also liked the look of Gotham and Arkham. The Scarecrow was really creepy and the effects were sweet. It left me satisfied the way the first Tim Burton Batman movie did. I am not comparing them, just saying that it was a good Batman flick, and they are hard to come by these days.

Definitely spend the cash to see this one in the theater.

A wonderful day in the neighborhood

After running around today doing all our errands and enjoying our day
together we stopped off at Sue’s for some dessert! We had homemade
pound cake, topped with strawberries and whipped cream. It was yummy.

We stood outside a while and talked and watched a horse and buggy, with
some Mennonite teens in it drive though the neighborhood. As odd as
this sounds, it’s not so odd where we live since there are a lot of
Mennonites around. What was odd was that the buggy was blasting music
from a boom box! No gasoline engines but electronics on batteries must
be okay!

We also passed the time with a favorite past time, playing bubbles with
Reilly, Sue’s miniature poodle. He loves to chase bubbles and jumps
incredibly high to catch them. Luckily I caught him with the Sidekick
this evening!

A very long day

That’s what today was. A long day. It started off well enough. We woke up not too early, not too late and watched some TV and decided to head out to see my folks. This weekend is Pride weekend in NYC (and other cities around the country and world!) and we were invited to go by several friends (Thanks to all of you for thinking of us) but we declined. I’ve been on the road back to back for four weeks and I just really need a weekend at home doing not much of anything and seeing very few people. We did however decide we needed to go see my folks since I missed both my mother’s birthday and Father’s Day last weekend when I was in California.

We got there and were just chatting it up with me and Shawn when suddenly her iBook’s display started to go all wonky and began to have lines in it and it was flickering… this was not good at all. About as quickly as this started, it stopped and her Mac began to lock up and finally was unresponsive. I was fairly sure this was a logic board issue. This has been a known issue with G3 iBooks, so much so that Apple has extended waranties on these machines. Well of course my mom freaked out (who wouldn’t) and was almost in tears. I told her to calm down and that we’d take it up to the Apple Store at King of Prussia and see what they say. A quick trip up there did in fact turn up a bad Logic board and she’s out of a Mac for 7-10 days. At least it’s covered. We spend about 2 hours in the Mall and the Apple Store but we got it sorted.

We had dinner at the Outback sat around and talked a bit and then headed home. It was a nice day but a long one.

Nite!

New Toys…

I am one happy boy today. I received some new hardware today from my second job at the website, a new 15″ Apple PowerBook G4! It’s a big bigger but it’s nice to have all that space on the monitor! I am also in love with the backlit keyboard. It comes on when the lights go off and it really lights up the keyboard well to be used in the dark.

The other thing that I loved was the Tiger Setup Assistant, which transferred all my Apps, settings and data from my 12″ PowerBook to my new PowerBook. It took about 45 minutes and went almost flawlessly. I then repeated with Shawn’s iBook to the 12″ PowerBook.

Come to think of it… we’re now a Power Only family now. 12″ PowerBook G4, 15″ PowerBook G4, PowerMac G5. How sweet…
