Wilkes Barre

I just arrived in Wilkes-Barre, PA, another Best Western but this one is much better than the last one! It’s cleaner and much nicer but there is NO Nick At Nite! What a rip! I live off Nick at Nite in the hotels. I fall asleep to it. When nothing is on, there’s always Nick at Nite! But not here, but no worries, there are four channels of ESPN. Ugh !

Nite!

Willy Wonka

Okay… I know this movie is a cult classic but I am so tired of seeing Wonka parodies on cartoon shows. It’s not that I don’t think they should do it, I am just tired of them already! Family Guy, Futurama oy. I am tired of seeing them.

I do think that Family Guy’s was way better than Futurama’s.

Morning of frustration

This morning has been extremely frustrating. It started early this morning when our activities were interrupted by the trash truck. Then I had Mac issues. I am pissed because I wanted to add Classic support to my OS X 10.4 Tiger PowerBook, so I got out my Software Restore DVD and installed Software Restore and when it ran, it kept telling me to insert my first Software Restore disk. I thought to myself umm okay, it’s already in there! So I ejected it and reinserted it. No help. I was too busy to look into the issue so I put it off to the side until I had a lull until and did a search thru the Apple Support Database. I found an article that basically says that if your Software Restore disk is 10.2, it won’t run in Tiger. Sure enough my disk is 10.2.7 and we all know it’s Tiger. So what to do, well Apple says… reinstall 10.2, install Classic and then upgrade to 10.4. WHAT? I hate upgrades. This is not good. So I decide I’ll do a little test and I’ll install to my new USB 2.0 Drive and see if it does what I need before messing with my system. Sounds good right? Sadly there is only one problem… You can’t boot off a USB 2.0 Drive. Firewire only. Ugh… I should have known this. Add to this some work frustrations plus the fact that I am on the road in a few hours.. it was a frustrating morning.

That being said I owe a note of thanks to Evilbuddha for listening to me vent and get my head clear again. Thanks bud.

David…

Well David went home today. It was sad that he had to leave because we had a really good time while he was here. Willow especially seems to be sad. She really liked David and she was constantly camping out near him and letting him pet her and even pick her up! Amazing. She really seems to notice he’s not here. I am sure she’ll get over it by the morning but it was cute to see her looking for him :)!

It was a great weekend, and unfortunately it’s over. This week brings another business trip, this time to Wilkes Barre, PA. At least it’s a drive not a plane trip.

Well off to bed. Nite!

The Aviator

Last nite we watched The Aviator.

For those of you what ain’t yet been told… The movie is about Howard Hughes. The movie was very very good. I really liked it. There was so much I did not know about Howard Hughes. Leonardo DiCaprio was good as Hughes. Cate Blanchett was really excellent as Katherine Hepburn. The cast was full of stars, Alec Baldwin, Alan Alda, Kate Beckinsale to name a few. The movie was long but fast moving, and satisfying. I highly recommend it.

The Aviator, PG-13, 170 minutes
4 out of 5 stars

Reflections on the weekend

All in all it was a good weekend. We had fun with David being here, yesterday we wandered around the King of Prussia Mall, stopped into the Apple Store, did some window shopping and had dinner at the Bamboo Club. We’ve been there before see this post. The food was good, the company was fantastic. I had a very tasty Kettle One Green Apple Martini, which since I did not eat very much before we got there went STRAIGHT to my head. I am such a light weight! I got a little tipsy and warm and my head was swimming. Like always I just got a little more talkative and a little more giggly.

After dinner we came back and watched the Season Finale of 24 finally. It was great! I am so happy with the way they left it. I had heard rumblings that Kiefer did not want to come back, this certainly was a cliffhanger. Before we went to dinner, we watched the movie Closer. It was pretty good, I certainly see why Clive Owens got an Oscar nod, plus he’s so hot. I really liked him ever since I saw him in that BMW movie the Star… anyway, the movie made me laugh cause I just don’t always get the way people think. I think in addition to my music section, I want to start a movie section or at least blog about each movie I see and what i thought about it. But I digress.

While watching the finale of 24 and an episode of the L Word, I played poker on line with Mike P. and I had a blast.

This morning we got up and watched a little of the French Open (you did know I am a tennis nut didn’t you?). We had lunch and then went out to eat at Buca di Beppo. I ate so much I thought I was going to burst. I love that place especially the Chicken Saltimboca, however I over eat every damn time! We are currently watching the Aviator, so far so good. Maybe I’ll post a little on it tomorrow.

Good Nite!

Crashed

That’s just what I did last nite and too early too. It was about midnite that my tired ass could just not take it anymore. I was bummed too because I was hoping for some poker. When we got home, I gave AJ a call and asked him if he’d like to head out to dinner with me, Shawn and David and then back to chez moi for some Poker. He said he’d love to so we decided to go to Smokey Bones for some BBQ. The food was good but the Nachos were cold but the company was good.

I had brisket and smoked turkey it was fantastic as always. I also stopped off at Barnes and Noble to buy “Valley of the Dolls”. The funny part of the story is that when we turned out of the driveway we were going one way, the wrong way and AJ took the Expedition and just headed over the center divider and into the parking lot. I was howling.

When we got back home, we were all sitting around talking and I just started fading fast. I made my excuses and went upstairs and passed the f*ck out. I don’t know why it is that on weeknights when I have to get up at 5am the next morning I am wide awake and raring to go at midnite and on Fridays I’m dead by 1am. I don’t know if it’s because I know I don’t have to get up in the morning or if it’s because a weeks worth of no sleep has caught up with me. Oh well…

We’re off to lunch and then some window shopping in K.o.P. Apple store he we come!

The road to God is short and narrow

Forgive me if I offend at all but I saw the funniest damn thing today and I really need to blog about it.

Now I openly admit I like reality TV, all kinds, there are some that make me just uninterested but for the most part, there are lots I like. Today, Shawn and David and I were watching the Read World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno and I am watching Julie (from the New Orleans Season, you know the Mormon), who I can’t stand because she is HELLA Bible banging these days. Well the task at hand was to ride a minibike around a track. Now there were two ways to go one was the long but safe way, the road was 4 feet wide with a few bends in the road. The other was a quick straight shortcut that would only take a moment to get across but, the road is only 1 foot wide. Other cast members tried and fell right off but Julie decided she was going to try and that because “The Road To God is Short and Narrow” she’d make it. I laughed twice as hard when she promptly fell off the narrow road.

I really wonder if I have a sick sense of humor, but then everyone else was giggling too, maybe it’s not so bad.

Stress and Roses

Ok this post has nothing to with roses, I just had the Smithereen’s song “Blood and Roses”… but I digress.

I am sorry I did not post yesterday but it was an awful day. I don’t like to blog about work so let me just kvetch in general terms. Had my second of my two back to back classes today. This time there were more people and they weren’t from the US. I had a bit of trouble understanding them and standing next to a few of them. I think they got what I was trying to teach them but I’m not totally sure. After class was dismissed, I helped a co worker with a problem (in my area of expertise) and I didn’t leave the office until 7pm. By the time I got home I was exhausted.

Shawn made dinner (yay!), we cleaned up the house for David’s visit this weekend and I went up to get changed. I passed out on the bed for at least a half hour. When I woke up I decided I was NOT doing anymore work and went to grab my PowerBook. I decided to play a bit and hook up the PowerBook to “IT” our 30″ LCD TV. It was neat to have such a big screen and to be able to catch up on my TiVo in the Picture-in-Picture function.

I chatted a bit with “hot!” AJ, Mike P and Evilbuddha, The Angelheaded Hipster and Brandon. It was then I noticed there is a big ass problem with the Archive pages and I need to fix it. I gotta do some trouble shooting. I am thinking of renaming my blog from my blog to “beingboring.” a PSB reference. What do you all think? I am also contemplating taking the “My BLog” header and paragraph off the main page in favor of a “beingboring.” header. Maybe with a pic of me? I dunno.

I might get to work on it this weekend, I guess it depends on how much we do with David.

Well off to day two of my second in a row class, followed by ANOTHER one next week in Wilkes-Barre, followed but a fun loving trip to Alabama where maybe I’ll get to meet La Mil.

See ya
